Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

I’ve noticed that I haven’t written very much in the last week. I’m sure part of that is simply due to the automatic response of a person who has spent his whole life in education. Summer has almost always provided a much-needed escape from the “everyday,” even if the everyday is “retirement.”

Another part of the reason is that I’m continuing my efforts to master Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and Flash in order to begin some new web projects, and that’s taking up much more time than I originally anticipated

I’m also considering whether to jump into a more extensive study of Chinese and Japanese literature, certainly the direction I seem to be headed, or “take a break” and read some other forms of fiction, particularly short stories by Ursula Le Guin or novels by W.C. Sebald.

Of course, other parts of my life also continue to distract me, including spending some time with Lael. Dawn and Lael spent much of Friday here as I babysat Lael while Dawn worked on final editing some iMovies we had taken several years ago and which continue to occupy large portions of my hard drive.

I guess that’s a long way of introducing a typical picture of Lael appealing to her mother to rescue her from the clutches of Gavin’s beloved Pahtah.

  1. I think you should jump into a more extensive study of Chinese and Japanese literature AND read a few novels by W.C. Sebald.

Ursula Le Guin’s short stories can wait until next summer.

  2. Is this the same Jonathon Delacour whose decided to relax by readingMichael Connelly’s mystery novels?

Next summer I’ve been booked to babysit Gavin and Lael for an extended period of time while their parents travel to Mexico. I doubt I’ll have much time for Ursula as I’ll be trying to get Lael to smile at me instead of turning around looking for a mommy.
