If yesterday’s sunshine was an unexpected treat, my trip to Port Orchard for lunch after my hike at Theler Wetlands was an even more unexpected treat. When I was there last Sunday there were very few birds and with all the people out on Veterans Day I didn’t really expect to see much. But since I was there for lunch I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to walk down and check out the dock.
I wasn’t disappointed. There were a lot more birds than I’d seen at Belfair, like this small Mew Gull which seemed to glow in the bright sunshine,
the first female Red-Breasted Merganser I’ve seen this season,
the first flock of Barrow’s Goldeneye’s whether it was taking off,
landing,
or just courting a mate.
I love mergansers Loren – you have captured a lovely shot of it. I like the ducks landing too.
i have had the good fortune of watching several merganser families on the Yakima River. Appreciate your photos as always. kjm
I love the picture of a Goldeneye putting on the brakes!

Gorgeous! Glad you were able to get out and the sun was shining.
