Leftovers

I’ve started reading Peter Matthiessen’s The Snow Leopard but I’m not far enough along to make any meaningful comments yet — might be a couple of days before I reach that point.

So I decided to go with a couple more shots from Sunday, since it’s been solid rain since, impossible to get decent pictures even if I was willing to take a chance on getting drenched.

Nearly everything I shot at Port Orchard was very similar to what I’ve shot there before. The Barrow’s Goldeneye males continue to court the females, who continue to seem remarkably indifferent to the male’s attempts to gain their attention.

I must admit that I could sit for hours watching these strange rituals.

Meanwhile I got this picture of a Common Goldeneye sitting reflectively much closer to shore:

I wish I could figure out how to make my camera focus underwater, or, at least, looking down into the water because I could have gotten some great shots of this female Red-Breasted Merganser diving. As it was I had to limit myself to shots of her bringing her catch, which appears to be a large shrimp, to the surface.
