Color me Tired

Today was a “grandpa” day, with grandpa babysitting sweet little Lael because Dawn had a field trip she needed to attend at school.

Apparently Lael didn’t realize that grandpa days are a special treat. In fact, she may have considered it a form of punishment because she spent much of the day crying, no matter what grandpa tried.

Skye was most upset, too, and spent much of the day glowering at me, as if to say, “Well, shouldn’t you be doing SOMETHING to make her stop crying?”

If it hadn’t been pouring dogs and cats, he’d probably have spent most of the day in the back yard. Since it was raining and since he doesn’t like to get his delicate little paws wet, he spent much of the day with his head stuck through the doggy door in an apparent attempt to reduce the noise. I usually discourage this behavior, but today I sort of envied him.

There was the potential for a couple of great photos, but unfortunately I was far too harried to worry about pictures and doubt that I would have taken such incriminating pictures. After all, I like to picture myself as a great grandpa, not as a child abuser.

  1. What a mean old man! Sometimes those cute kids are just looking for somebody whose head they can screw up. Sorry they found you an easy target!

Hell hath no fury like a child who’s mad about Mama going off and leaving them…

  2. I just discovered your blog from a search on Bruce Weigl. I found your archive comments on Bruce, which I greatly appreciated. I am thankful to find his writing. I have long appreciated writers that came out of war, such as Sigfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen…
