Snorkeling on the Trilogy II

Everyone agreed that the highlight of our Hawaii vacation was the snorkeling trip on Trilogy II.

I was too busy trying to stay afloat to take photos but Margaret purchased several shots from the Trilogy photographer.

It’s clear that the kids who had snorkeled the day before (Kel and Mira) had an advantage over

Grandma Leslie

and yours truly.

If I ever go back to Hawaii, I’ll buy a mask, snorkel, and fins several weeks before I leave and practice in the local pool. Long, long ago I actually had a face mask and fins and spent most of the summer at the bottom of the pool and the lake, but it turns out any skills learned 60+ years ago are largely forgotten.

All the flailing and splashing were soon forgotten, though, when I caught sight of a sea turtle swimming into the depths.

  1. I had never snorkeled until we were in Hawaii and took a snorkeling trip that left from Malaaea Harbor and went over to Lanai. Had to use their equipment that time but did get used to it. After that we bought cheap snorkeling stuff at Long’s Drugs and tried a few local places. It definitely takes getting used to, not thinking you’re drowning. But it is amazing to be able to see below the water!
