Do You See What I See ?

I haven’t been using Internet Explorer for awhile now, so I was a little surprised when I visited In a Dark Time today and discovered that the entire left hand column had disappeared.

When I ran the mouse over it I could suddenly see the links that are supposed to be there, but I could never get the Side Titles, like “Archives” to appear.

If you’re using Internet Explorer, and who isn’t except for Mac fanatics like myself, can a few of you let me know if you can or cannot see the left hand column?

  1. Er, sorry, I’m a Phoenix/Mozilla user, and the left-hand links look fine to me.

    Possibly there’s a box-model issue. I’ll take a look when I go home tonight.

  2. All’s visible with IE5.5 — using a variety of different ‘puters to scope out your joint and the side bar has always been there.

    Roll on, LW….

  3. Ah. So it’s just me then.

As of yesterday the column had disappeared, although I wasn’t around for a few days before that so I can’t pinpoint the date of the disappearance.

I’m on IE 5.2. on Mac OSX. Exactly the same problem – blank column on arrival, links appear if you treat the area as a child’s magic painting book with the mouse as brush, but no headings. Very strange.

  4. Jeez, I wonder if Apple did something with their latest update to OS X that’s incompatible with Internet Explorer?

Naw, that’s giving in to the old conspiracy thing, isn’t it?

  5. You probably tried this, but I would take a look at your browser font color. You recently changed the back ground color so the font and background maybe the same, thus invisible. Look on the tool bar under Tools and then Internet Options.

  6. i’ve got the same funny behavior that qB describes with ie 5.0 on my os 9.1… deb’s suggestion sounds reasonable

  7. Everything is there in IE 6 on Windows 98, Windows XP Home and Professional! I’ll check on my Linux machine tomorrow and let you know what’s visible there.

  8. Well, I tried Deb’s suggestion but that didn’t seem to be the problem.

I haven’t changed any background colors recently, and it seems really strange that the colors come out fine on Camino and Safari, exactly as they’ve always been, but disappear only on Internet Explorer. When they do show up, they are precisely the same color as they are on Camino and Safari.

Don’t know what to do about it, but I’ll work on it.
